The Charouleau Bedroom Collection

** I received Country Chic paint to complete this furniture makeover, however the opinions and thoughts expressed here are 100% my own.

A Seventies Intervention

Oh good golly would you look at this?! You may have passed up a bedroom set just like this at a garage sale. What, why!? You don't think it's pretty? ;) Okay, you're right. It's hideous but ah, come on... it has the bones to be love-e-lee. We're going to transform this bedroom set into something spectacular for just $25. Yep, you read that right. Twenty-five, one dollar bills. With just a little paint, this bedroom makeover is going from drab to fab!

Take a gander at the hardware. They are exquisite, but they get swallowed up in the existing wood finish. Care for a close up? Friends, they just don't make hardware like they used to!

They also don't make wood like they used to. ;) I'd rather fix up an older all wood set any day then shell out $$ for a new set that may or may not contain particle board.

We unscrewed all of the hardware, grabbed a paint brush and some Country Chic Paint in Vanilla Frosting and went to work. After two and half layers of paint, we gave it light distressing and put it back together.

Country Chic Guest Post: The Thompson Dresser

*Country Chic Paint provided me the paint supplies to create and design this furniture makeover and DIY project. All of the opinions and thoughts contained in this post are honest and 100% my own.

I am excited to be able to share another Guest Post at Country Chic Paint today! I decided to go big & bold or go home with this next transformation! I found this Old World dresser at my local thrift store. It possessed nine clean drawers and amazing hardware and it had me at swirl.

What it lacked in height, I could give her and what it lacked in color... well my heavens, I could fix that too!

If you haven't yet tried Country Chic Paint before, you're really missing out! Country Chic Paint is a chalk and mineral based paint that goes on so smooth, dries quickly and produces such a beautiful finish. It's really one of my top three favorite paints to work with!

mustard yellow paint, mustard yellow dresser, diy, dresser makeover

I decided to put Country Chic Paint to the test. Could I really push the limits and complete a dresser transformation with just one pint of paint? I was a little nervous. Then, I reminded myself that the theme for this project was "Go Big and Bold or Go Home", so I went for it!

Not only did I have enough for this long dresser but I still had a little bit left over for some DIY Art Work. I think that says a lot about the quality of their paint. If you missed it, hop on over and check out this DIY Hand Painted Sign shown below photos that I made with my left overs. ;)

Before I opened up my can of Fresh Mustard paint, I added bun feet to the bottom of our dresser. If you're interested in learning more about how to add legs to furniture, you can check out our full tutorial here. To keep with the Old World look, I opted to give it a heavily distressed finish. But, I didn't use sand paper and I didn't use a wet rag to accomplish this. Instead, I used a Reverse Distressing technique explained here in our Guest Post

From drab to fab, The Thompson Dresser is brighter, bolder and a little bit taller.

Good morning! It's the start of a new week and the beginning of a new month. A month that includes an especially tender holiday for me.

Mother's Day.

What makes this day so special?

Well besides sleeping in...

I usually get breakfast in bed.

Homemade cards (my favorite!) and...

Children that try extra hard to be extra awesome! Becoming a mother has been one of my  greatest joys.

And I was trained by the very best...

I've had my eye on this lovely dresser from Anthropologie for some time. But sadly they would like me to empty my pocket book to the tune of $1300.00 for it. So, I'll continue to gawk at it and use it as inspiration instead. :)

Pink Chalk Painted Card Catalog Dresser

I've had some extraordinary luck finding some wonderful pieces lately! I picked up this gem last week and was excited to break open a new can of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® in Scandinavian Pink, but before I could do that I needed to make a decision on the hardware. Although these French Provincial handles were true to the piece, it wasn't grabbing me.

What if you could fix it up?

The construction and lines are there. How about the color and hardware? Yawining? Yeah, me too.  Four letters... D.R.A.B. And although I love the existing gold trim, in my personal opinion there was a little too much of it. We are bordering on goddy.

My plan? I'll keep the gold lines along the drawers of the dresser and on the legs and feet of both pieces and I would add some gold back to the hardware. Everything else would disappear in a silky smooth layer of turquoise.

Before you ask about the color I have to apologize. I don't have exact measurements for this turquoise hue. It was a little bit of trial and error on this project by dumping in a little Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan in Florence, Provence and Aubusson Blue and giving it a good mix. These pieces were finished off with both clear and dark wax. A little bit of paint went along way for these pieces.

Reverse Paint Distressing Technique With Chalk Paint®

Did you know that you can distress a piece of furniture as you're painting it? It's called the Reverse Paint Distressing technique and it's No. 5 of our 7th distressed furniture tutorial series.

If you're painting a furniture piece with lots of details & some chalk paint® you can achieve a distressed look without using an ounce of sand paper!

Put yours away... It's messy, time consuming and if executed improperly can sand away your original wood undertones. This is easier!

There are several different methods that you can use to distress furniture.

Reverse and wet distressing are my two very favorite go to furniture distressing techniques. Both of them require zero sand paper, messy vaseline or wax!

The Taylor Dresser

I love One Kings Lane. I'm a subscriber even though my wallet can't afford them. That makes me a One Kings Lane window shopper. ;) It also provides some much needed inspiration! So imagine my surprise when I happened upon this beauty late one night. And then my gasp when I looked down and saw that price tag. $2295- Wowzers! I couldn't resist so I peaked...somebody apparently has that kind of money because it has already sold.

Can you believe that I had one of these sitting unfinished in my garage? Yes. The. Same. Exact. Dresser.

This beautiful piece was refinished in Chalk Paint® decorative paint by Annie Sloan in Old White and the hardware received a good Brasso cleaning. Thanks for the inspiration One Kings Lane!

Making something pretty doesn't have to cost a fortune! I'm grateful I was able to create one at a fraction of a fraction of that cost. ;)

Now, it's your turn.. go and create something for YOU!
